Sage is the only herb I don't particularly like the taste of. It leaves an unpleasant aftertaste (IMO). I love growing sage plants in the garden though and have a few varieties. The humming birds, bees, and butterflies appear to enjoy the flowers.
I forgot to say, you can use Sage externally for poultices that treat strains, swelling and bleeding. Chop a handful of Sage leaves, mix with a little just-boiled water, wrap the mash in muslin and apply to the affected part as hot as possible (whilst taking care not to burn). Wrap in a towel and leave on for 20 minutes. You can also add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil or Myrrh tincture for further soothing and healing benefits.
I always go by taste as well, I think it's our body telling us what we need and don't need. Lovely that you grow Sage for your wild family who will be enjoying tremendous benefit. I found out it's great to grow by tomatoes and things like that as Sage attracts beneficial insects that will protect the fruits.
Thank you, Lizzie. I must admit that I knew only a little about Sage and feel truly enlightened. Perhaps my favourite so far, those velvety bunny-like leaves and a gorgeous aroma. 🌿
